Fall Highlights, oil on canvas 12x9
“Fall Highlights” is my first oil for 2021, its a tonalist genre, 12x9 on stretches 5/8 canvas. Framed—My wife Doris and i walk the “lost sister” trail for exercise and I worked from a photo of her walking up the trail this last fall. Of course tonalism focuses on the atmosphere and mood through a limited range of color values, so she is not there and that allows you to put yourself into this landscape. Lost sister is a DNR trail at the Indiana state recreation area, 2.25 miles long. Its named after Francis Slocum, a young Pennsylvania girl stolen from her family in the 1700s and brought to the Miami Indians in Indiana where she lived most of her life and became the wife of a cheif. Her brothers eventually found her late in life.
